Specialties

I am a researcher and developer in artificial intelligence with a strong bias towards computer vision. I specialise in state of the art algorithms within computer vision, machine learning, pattern recognition, classification, genetic programming, path planning, data mining etc. In addition to this technical education I attended and assisted a number of courses in communication and personal leadership. I have experience in agile development as team member and later as scrum master.

Employment

Freelance Computer Vision / Artificial Intelligence Programmer, 2015 – 2017 Several projects throughout the Netherlands, including visual inspection of printed newspapers and magazines, noise reduction in custom built cameras, object detection software, geometrical calibration in 360° cameras.

Software Engineer at Radan, Ede 2015 Automated collision detection in 3D metal bending simulations using 3D models and the Bullet Physics SDK.

DevOps Engineer at Byte, Amsterdam, 2014 Supported the dev-ops team to create a provisioning framework to manage about 800 (virtual) servers while ensuring database integrity, together with a asynchronous application programming interface.

Vision Software Engineer at Eagle Vision, Naarden, 2011 – 2014 People tracking using a grid of ceiling-mounted stereo cameras. The camera’s were able do detect people and recognize their pose. As a follow up on my master theses, I worked on an algorithm to recognize people over different cameras based on their appearance.

Software Developer at Synetic 2004 – 2009 Development on Synetic’s content management system “Pro Create”; a powerful tool to create complex websites and web applications from scratch in minutes.

Scaring birds from helicopter platforms at Kubiko, 2013 – 2017 An autonomous device scares birds from offshore oil and gas installations using computer vision, deep learning and mirror controlled laser beams.

Stitching six camera images to a single spherical image at Sphericam, 2016 – 2017 Stitching images requires precise color calibration and distortion correction, but the biggest issue to tackle is the parallax effect; how to stitch frames seamlessly with objects at several distances.

Mobile tablet app for internal process management at Contour, 2016 Administration is time consuming in a manufacturing company; the app selects the right info for each employee at each moment while minimizing the user input.

Colour based people tracking using non-overlapping stereo cameras at Eagle Vision Systems, 2011 – 2012, Master Thesis Investigating which appearance model can be used to recognize people using ceiling-mounted stereo cameras. I was supported by dr. ir. Leo Dorst, dr. Gwenn Englebienne and Wojtek Zajdel, PhD.

Reconstructing a 3D structure from unknown viewpoints at University of Amsterdam, 2010 Create a 3D model from several pictures of an object at unknown viewpoints using uncalibrated cameras.

Real-time billboard substitution in soccer matches at Triple IT, 2008 Replacing the billboards at the borders of a soccer field in a live video stream. Supported by dr. ir. Rein van den Boomgaard.
